The ebooks

I received a code in my printed book, what do I do?

The ebooks for all languages are now LIVE! Please use your code to access the ebook. You can find full instructions on the About the interactive ebooks page on this website.

My ebook has stopped working. Help!

Clearing your browser history or redownloading the ebook to your BookShelf usually resolves the issue. Please go to the About the interactive ebooks page for more information.

Do both lecturers and students have access to the ebook?

All books come with an ebook access code, so anyone who buys a copy of the book, whether a lecturer, a student, or anyone else, has access to the ebook through their individual code.

Can I use my ebook offline?

Yes, but please note that not all the interactive features work offline. Once you have downloaded the ebook you can read it offline using the VitalSource App, but when using the audio and video resources we recommend that you access the ebook online through Chrome for the best results. Please see the About the interactive ebooks page for more information.

Does the ebook have a fixed page or reflowable format?

The ebook has a fixed page format (so the pages look as they do in the printed format). You can zoom in using your device if you want to enlarge the text. The method will depend on your device. In some tablets you will be able to zoom in by simply using the touch screen in the usual way and on other devices you will need to use the Resize Text button in the menu, which is usually at the bottom of the page (the symbol is Aa).

What features does the ebook have?

The ebook has all the features you would expect from an epub3. For example, you can search, bookmark, highlight and make notes. In addition, you can also watch the video clips, listen to the audio (including voiced end-of-unit vocabulary lists), and complete interactive exercises.

Is the ebook available for sale separately?

No, at the present time we have no intention of selling the ebook separately. As linguists, we know that writing things down can help you remember! We would expect most students to use both the printed book and the ebook together to complete the course, so we are not selling them separately.

Can I put the ebook on a VLE?

No, the ebook can't be placed on a VLE as it only works through our distributor's platform (VitalSource). However, you can request a licence to put all the audio and video files on a VLE. This will give your students access to all the resources needed to complete the course. The MP3 and MP4 files can be found in the Learning and Teaching Resources on this site.

The audio

How do I access the audio clips?

All the audio clips are included in the ebook. When you reach an audio exercise, just click the headphone symbol to listen to the clip. As well as providing access to the audio for the exercises, you can also use your ebook to listen to the pronunciation of all the words in the end-of-unit vocabulary lists.

You can also access the audio files here, by clicking on the relevant level 1 language.

Can I order CDs?

We understand that some instructors teach in rooms without computer access. If you are a language instructor who requires CDs, please let us know. We will be happy to send you CDs free of charge. When you email, please send us your address and phone number for the courier.

Are MP3 files available?

Downloadable MP3 files are available to instructors in the Teaching Resources section of this website and to students in the Learning Resources section.

Can I put the MP3 files on my institution's VLE?

Yes! Please just contact us first for a licence agreement, then you can upload all MP3 files to your VLE.

The videos

How do I access the videos?

The video clips used in the exercises in your book are embedded into the ebook. To access them, you simply need to click 'play'.

You can also access all the videos on this website. Instructors can access the videos in the Teaching Resources section and students can access the videos in the Learning Resources section. To download the files, go to the relevant language page and click on the unit you want to access. A zip file containing the video will then be downloaded.

We also offer additional extension video exercises for each language, and these can be found in the Learning Resources section.

I am a language instructor. How do I obtain the individual video files?

Downloadable video files (MP4) are available to instructors in the Teaching Resources section of this website.

The bonus videos for French and Spanish that accompany the online exercises are available through YouTube in the Learning Resources section.

Can I put the video files on my institution's VLE?

Yes! Please contact us for a licence agreement for this use. Then you are free to upload the video MP4 files to your VLE.

My book says that additional video exercises are available online? Where do I find them?

You can access additional video content in the Learning Resources section of this website. This includes bonus videos for French and Spanish.
