Cite them right March 2019 release

What's new?

  1. Tutorial authentication

To access the tutorial, students will now have the option to sign in as an authenticated user or explore freely without remembering their progress. The method of authentication depends on the protocols that your institution has setup on the Cite them right site, either via Shibboleth, IP or by referral link.

This means students, launching the tutorial for the first time since this new update, will be presented with a register/login page before reaching the content.

Shibboleth users: will be presented with a one-time registration page to enter their details. On subsequent access, the user, will not be prompted to enter their credentials and instead, will be taken straight through to the tutorial.

IP / referral users: once authenticated on the main Cite them right site, they will be prompted to register when they first launch the tutorial and will be asked to sign-in on subsequent visits.

Explore freely: Once authenticated users can access the tutorial without registering/logging however they cannot save their progress nor their scores during this browsing session.

  2. Reporting

Institution admins will see new options to view, download and email tutorial usage reports for their respective institutions from within the Admin homepage.

General usage report: Overall statistics for respective institution such as Total login, unique logins, total time spent on the tutorial, percentage of topics completed and average assessment score

Detailed usage report: This report provides a breakdown of the individual user statistics for the same criteria as listed above.

  3. User-facing updates within the tutorial

As an authenticated user, the following are remembered, irrespective of the browser a user is on:

Progress bar: to monitor progression in the tutorial
Completion of all screens within a topic (represented by a tick mark on the menu)
Assessment scores with the option to reattempt them
Certificate download (Upon achieving 100% in all four assessments, a certificate of completion is unlocked and available for download)
