How to Propose Your Book

Guidance for New Authors

We would encourage you to get in touch with one of our Red Globe Press editors to discuss your ideas before committing pen to paper, but if you'd rather make a start on your proposal then here are some of our top tips to consider as you begin to develop your plans.

Research the Market

The majority of our sales come from students who have bought our book because it's the required or recommended text on their course, so from an early stage we need to be clear about how this book will be used by students. Which degree programmes will it be picked up on? More specifically, which courses / modules will the book be targeted towards? Is your text indented to span the content of a complete module – or is it more specialised? Are there certain parts of the world in which you book will particularly appeal? If you are basing your proposal on a course that you teach yourself, to what extent is the way that it is structured typical of how the subject is taught elsewhere?
