Foundations of Mental Health Practice

This is an interdisciplinary series with a profession focus on key areas of, and issues for, theory, policy and practice. All the titles are ambitious in focus and scope but range from adopted / recommended course texts to cutting-edge overviews of new or contentious areas of debate. The various books have a different disciplinary weighting according to their particular focus but all will approach their subject in a spirit of intellectual openness and with an aspiration to open up and extend debate. In brief, this series:

  • Explore key contemporary issues for mental health practice;
  • Highlight working in partnership across all the mental health professions and also involving service users and carers/relatives in this inclusive approach;
  • Take a broad approach to mental health and mental distress concentrating on social models, but also including psychological and biological perspectives;
  • Encourage mental health practitioners to work in an enabling and facilitative way with service users and their carers/relatives.
